Radvent-Day 7 | Traveling

One bag: my computer, phone, camera, sketchbook, jeans, sweatshirt, tshirt, tank top, shorts, socks, good shoes, pens, snacks!
The place that taught me the most was New Mexico. I went there on a mission trip. You know in school you are told the whites took the Native’s land and all was well. The Natives moved to reservations and they’re poor but they’re okay? That’s such bs. I can’t believe it took me until right before my senior year of high school to learn that. In New Mexico I learned how bad it really was for them. I learned about no air conditioning at night. I learned about no humidity (which is marvelous as I live in Nebraska). I learned there is beauty in the desert. I learned that they’re just trying to make it with what they have. I learned about greed and how it is more than going on a mission trip. I learned that there are bad people in the world, bad people in my life. That was a life-changing place, and the effects are lasting.
Another place where I learned a lot was North Dakota. Another mission trip, but of drastically different measures. We were helping people, but compared to NM, it seemed ridiculous. We helped a summer camp rebuild after a flood, helped clean up after a tornado, picked up trash in a park. I got way closer to nature than ever, and realized that is where I find God most. Nature is beauty and life.
I think if I had the opportunity, I’m comfortable going anywhere. Truth is, I have no money and no real reason to go anywhere other than fun. I know I’d learn so much, but the money just isn’t there. I’ve always dreamt of helping in third-world countries, but I have no motivation. :/
